Synchronous and Asynchronous Mode :: essays research papers

Coordinated and Asynchronous mode: Â Â Â Â Â In media transmission motioning inside a system or between systems, coordinated signs are those that happen at a similar clock rate when all tickers depend on a solitary reference clock. Simultaneous correspondence necessitates that each finish of a trade of correspondence react thusly without starting another correspondence. Â Â Â Â Â An nonconcurrent signal is one that is transmitted at an alternate clock rate than another sign. Offbeat activity likewise implies that a procedure works autonomously of different procedures, though coordinated activity implies that the procedure runs just because of some different procedure being finished or giving off activity. Simple and Digital: Simple correspondence utilizes consistent transmission of an electromagnetic wave structure that differs in recurrence and plentifulness. An advanced correspondence framework utilizes spasmodic transmission that may change in recurrence, sufficiency and additionally stage to speak to twofold information. Simplex and Duplex: Â Â Â Â Â A correspondences system can give numerous sorts of administration. The most fundamental sort of administration is known as simplex. This administration gives single direction correspondence. Instances of this kind of administration are TV dissemination, and the transmission of robber alert messages. Â Â Â Â Â Most systems move information in two ways and are known as duplex correspondences joins. Duplex connections are named either full duplex or half duplex (otherwise called two different ways substitute), contingent on whether both neighborhood and remote hubs may all the while transmit, or whether one must sit tight for the other to complete before beginning transmission. Sequential and Parallel Transmission: Â Â Â Â Â In media transmission, sequential transmission is the consecutive transmission of the sign components of a gathering speaking to a character or other substance of information. The characters are transmitted in a succession over a solitary line, instead of at the same time more than at least two lines, as in equal transmission. The consecutive components might be transmitted with or without interference. An equal connection transmits a few floods of information (speaking to specific bits of a surge of bytes) along numerous channels (wires, printed circuit tracks, optical filaments, and so on.). Sequential Line Internet Protocol (SLIP)and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP): Â Â Â Â Â SLIP and PPP are two correspondence conventions which permit a PC associated with a server by means of a sequential line, (for example, a modem) to turn into a genuine hub on the web. This permits you to run arrange applications on your home PC legitimately. While SLIP and PPP are to a great extent comparative, there are some key contrasts. PPP is a more current convention, better planned, and increasingly satisfactory to the kind of individuals who like to normalize convention particulars.

John Tylers Presidency and the Tyler Precedent

John Tylers Presidency and the Tyler Precedent John Tyler, the main VP to complete the term of a president who had kicked the bucket in office, built up an example in 1841 that would be followed for over a century. The Constitution was not so much clear about what might occur if a president kicked the bucket. Furthermore, when William Henry Harrison kicked the bucket in the White House on April 4, 1841, some in the legislature accepted his VP would just turn into an acting president whose choices would require the endorsement of Harrisons bureau. Quick Facts: Tyler Precedent Named for John Tyler, the main VP to become president upon the passing of a president.Tyler was told by individuals from William Henrys Harrison that he was basically just an acting president.Cabinet individuals demanded any choices made by Tyler needed to meet with their approval.Tyler adhered to his position, and the point of reference he set stayed in constrained until the Constitution was corrected in 1967. As burial service arrangements started for President Harrison, the government was tossed into an emergency. On one side, individuals from Harrisons bureau, who had no extraordinary trust in Tyler, would not like to see him practice the full powers of the administration. John Tyler, who had a blazing temper, strongly oppose this idea. His difficult affirmation that he had legitimately acquired the full powers of the workplace got known as the Tyler Precedent. In addition to the fact that Tyler became the president, practicing all the forces of the workplace, yet the point of reference he set remained the plan for presidential progression until the Constitution was revised in 1967. Bad habit Presidency Considered Unimportant For the initial five many years of the United States, the bad habit administration was not viewed as an indispensably significant office. While the initial two VPs, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, were later chosen president, the two of them saw the bad habit administration as a baffling position. In the questionable appointment of 1800, when Jefferson became president, Aaron Burr became VP. Burr is the most popular VP of the mid 1800s, however he is for the most part associated with slaughtering Alexander Hamilton in a duel while VP. Some VPs took the occupations one characterized obligation, managing the Senate, genuinely. Others were said to scarcely think about it. Martin Van Buren’s VP, Richard Mentor Johnson, had an exceptionally loosened up perspective on the activity. He claimed a bar in his home province of Kentucky, and keeping in mind that VP he took a protracted time away from Washington to return home and run his bar. The man who followed Johnson in the workplace, John Tyler, turned into the main VP to show how significant the individual in the activity could turn into. Demise of a President John Tyler had begun his political vocation as a Jeffersonian Republican, serving in the Virginia lawmaking body and as the state’s senator. He in the long run was chosen for the US Senate, and when he turned into a rival of Andrew Jackson’s approaches he surrendered his Senate seat in 1836 and exchanged gatherings, turning into a Whig. Tyler was tapped as the running mate of Whig applicant William Henry Harrison in 1840. The amazing â€Å"Log Cabin and Hard Cider† battle was genuinely liberated from issues, and Tyler’s name was highlighted in the unbelievable crusade trademark, â€Å"Tippecanoe and Tyler Too!† Harrison was chosen, and got a bug at his initiation while conveying a long debut address in terrible climate. His sickness formed into pneumonia, and kicked the bucket on April 4, 1841, a month in the wake of getting to work. VP John Tyler, at home in Virginia and ignorant of the reality of the presidents sickness, was educated that the president had passed on. The Constitution Was Unclear Tyler came back to Washington, accepting he was the leader of the United States. Be that as it may, he was educated that the Constitution wasnt definitely clear about that. The pertinent wording in the Constitution, in Article II, area 1, stated: â€Å"In instance of expulsion of the President from office, or of his demise, or powerlessness to release the forces and obligations of said office, the equivalent will decay on the Vice President†¦Ã¢â‚¬ The inquiry emerged: what did the composers mean by the word â€Å"same†? Did it mean the administration itself, or simply obligations of the workplace? As it were, in case of a president’s demise, would the VP become an acting president, and not really the president? Back in Washington, Tyler ended up being alluded to as â€Å"the VP, going about as president.† Critics alluded to him as â€Å"His Accidency.† Tyler, who was remaining at a Washington inn (there was no bad habit presidential home until present day times), gathered Harrison’s bureau. The bureau educated Tyler that he was not really the president, and any choices he would make in office would need to be affirmed by them. John Tyler Held His Ground â€Å"I ask your exculpation, gentlemen,† Tyler said. â€Å"I am certain I am happy to have in my bureau such capable legislators as you have demonstrated yourselves to be, and I will be satisfied to benefit myself of your guidance and counsel, yet I can never agree to being directed to with regards to what I will or will not do. I, as president, will be answerable for my organization. I want to have your collaboration in completing its measures. Insofar as you want to do this I will be happy to have you with me. At the point when you suspect something, your abdications will be accepted.† Tyler in this manner asserted the full powers of the administration. Furthermore, the individuals from his bureau withdrew from their danger. A trade off proposed by Daniel Webster, the secretary of state, was that Tyler would make the vow of office, and would then be the president. After the promise was controlled, on April 6, 1841, all the officials of the administration acknowledged that Tyler was the president and had the full powers of the workplace. The making of the vow in this way came to be viewed as the second when a VP becomes president. Tylers Rough Term In Office A resolved individual, Tyler conflicted relentlessly with the Congress and with his own bureau, and his single term in office was rough. Tyler’s bureau changed a few times. Furthermore, he got alienated from the Whigs and was basically a president without a gathering. His one imperative accomplishment as president would have been the addition of Texas, yet the Senate, in a spirit of meanness, postponed that until the following president, James K. Polk, could assume praise for it. The Tyler Precedent Was Established The administration of John Tyler was generally huge for the manner in which it started. By setting up the â€Å"Tyler Precedent,† he guaranteed that future VPs would not become acting presidents with limited position. It was under the Tyler Precedent that the accompanying VPs became president: Millard Fillmore, following the passing of Zachary Taylor in 1850Andrew Johnson, following the death of Abraham Lincoln in 1865Chester Alan Arthur, following the death of James Garfield in 1881Theodore Roosevelt, following the death of William McKinley in 1901Calvin Coolidge, following the demise of Warren G. Harding in 1923Harry Truman, following the demise of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945Lyndon B. Johnson, following the death of John F. Kennedy in 1963 Tyler’s activity was basically certified, after 126 years, by the 25th Amendment, which was approved in 1967. Subsequent to serving his term in office, Tyler came back to Virginia. He remained politically dynamic, and tried to thwart the Civil War by meeting a questionable harmony gathering. At the point when endeavors to keep away from war fizzled, he was chosen for the Confederate congress, however passed on in January 1862, preceding he could sit down.

Adventures with Miracle Fruit

Adventures with Miracle Fruit The berry of the West African Synsepalum dulcificum (miracle fruit) bush has been popular in the United States since the 70s for its temporary effect on taste. The berry’s miraculin glycoprotein (3.42 kilodaltons of carbohydrate, 21.2 kilodaltons of protein) binds to the sweetness receptors of the tongue and activates them in response to acid, making sour foods sweet without affecting other flavors. The change lasts as long as miraculin stays bound to our taste budsâ€"fifteen to thirty minutes. The maximum sweetness of acidic foods after miraculin is equal to that of a 17% sucrose solution, stronger than almost all known sweeteners. Miraculin has not been approved by the FDA as a sweetener or food additive, but is mass-produced in Japan through genetically modified tomatoes, E. coli, and lettuce. Interest in miraculin spiked after a May 2008 New York Times article on “flavor-tripping parties” in New York and again in 2011, correlated (correlation! not causation!) with protests against the Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill and the release of Radiohead album The King of Limbs. Multiple MIT living groups have had miracle berry parties, including Next House this past orientation and Theta Xi last campus preview weekend. This Saturday evening Black Hole (the second floor of the north side of Random Hall) had its own fruit tasting party, with freeze-dried miracle fruit pulp pills, about 30 Randomites, and all the above and below foods.   Peanuts are nether sweet nor sour. They acted as our negative control and were, as expected, unchanged. Strawberries changed the most dramatically. They had a strong new flavor of sweet layered over the already present strawberry sweet we know and love. Most of us liked them. Former Black Hole resident Zev B. ‘08 thought they tasted fake, and prefers the sour versions of most fruit. Lemons and limes tasted like sweeter, more edible versions of themselves. They were no longer uncomfortably sour. Notably, according to Black Hole resident Catherine O. ‘12, lemons tasted like chicken when preceded by chocolate. Someone else confirmed that there was a meaty flavor that shouldn’t have been there. Tomatoes and bell peppers adopted sweetness previously unknown to vegetables. I didn’t try pickles but I heard they didn’t change. Pineapple tasted like better pineapple. Goat cheese tasted like a different cheese. Vinegar was drinkable. It had flavor. I liked it. I wanted to compare it to flavored vinegar but realized that my teeth would be miserable and instead washed my mouth out with baking soda (which neutralizes acids). Kate O. ‘14, also a Black Hole resident, reported that apple cider vinegar unfortunately does not taste like apple cider.     Post Tagged #Random Hall

The Four types of Reinforcement - 666 Words

Everybody has been punished at least once in their life time and we all remember how that one small spanking, time out, or grounding seemed like it was the end of the world. What event caused the punishment, did that event ever occur again? Punishment is a type of reinforcement. The term reinforce means to strengthen, and in Psychology it is used to refer to any stimulus which strengthens the probability of a certain response. There are four types of reinforcement: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, punishment and extinction. Of those four types of reinforcement, punishment is the most effective type if given after an undesired response; it can also be used to teach one a lesson. It lowers the probability that a response will occur again. In operant conditioning, punishment is any change in a human or its surroundings that occurs after a given behavior which minimizes the likelihood of that behavior occurring again. There are two types of punishment: positive punishment and negative punishment. Positive punishment is known as â€Å"punishment by application.† This form of punishment involves presenting an aversive stimulus after a behavior has occurred. For example, a puppy does not use the puppy pad and the owner scolds him for it. The second type of punishment, negative punishment, is known as the â€Å"punishment by removal.† Negative punishment involves taking away something that is dear to the punished. An example of this type of punishment is a parentShow MoreRelatedSkinners O perant Conditioning Theory Essay658 Words   |  3 Pagesconditioned to respond in a certain way, and learning takes place. Learn About the Tarantulas Family Theraphosidae

Tarantulas look big and scary, but theyre actually rather docile and virtually harmless to people. Members of the family Theraphosidae exhibit some interesting behaviors and share certain traits. Description Chances are, you would recognize a tarantula if you came across one, without knowing much at all about the traits that define it as a member of the family Theraphosidae. People recognize tarantulas by their enormous size, relative to other spiders, and by their conspicuously hairy bodies and legs. But theres more to a tarantula than hair and heft. Tarantulas are mygalomorphs, along with their close cousins the trapdoor spiders, the purse-web spiders, and the folding-door spiders. Mygalomorphic spiders have two pairs of book lungs, and large chelicerae bearing parallel fangs that move up and down (rather than sideways, as they do in araneomorphic spiders). Tarantulas also have two claws on each foot. See this diagram of the parts of a tarantula for more information about the tarantula body. Most tarantulas live in burrows, with some species modifying existing crevices or burrows to their liking, and others constructing their homes from scratch. Some arboreal species climb off the ground, living in trees or even on cliffsides. Classification Kingdom – AnimaliaPhylum – ArthropodaClass – ArachnidaOrder – AraneaeInfraorder - MygalomorphaeFamily - Theraphosidae Diet Tarantulas are generalist predators. Most hunt passively, by simply lying in wait near their burrows until something wanders within reach. Tarantulas will eat anything small enough to catch and consume: arthropods, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and even small mammals. In fact, theyll even eat other tarantulas given the opportunity. Theres an old joke that tarantula keepers tell to illustrate this point: Q: What do you get when you put two small tarantulas in a terrarium?A: One big tarantula. Life Cycle Tarantulas engage in sexual reproduction, although the male transfers his sperm indirectly. When hes ready to mate, the male tarantula constructs a silken sperm web and deposits his sperm there. He then sucks the sperm back up with his pedipalps, filling special sperm storage organs. Only then is he ready to find a mate. A male tarantula will travel at night in search of a receptive female. In many tarantula species, the male and female engage in courtship rituals before mating. They may dance or drum or quiver to prove their worth to one another. When the female appears willing, the male approaches and inserts his pedipalps into her genital opening, and releases his sperm. He then quickly retreats to avoid being eaten. Female tarantulas usually wrap her eggs in silk, creating a protective egg sac which she may suspend in her burrow or move as environmental conditions change. In most tarantula species, the young emerge from the egg sac as bald, immobile postembryo, which require a few more weeks to darken and molt into their first instar stage. Tarantulas are long-lived, and typically take years to reach sexual maturity. Female tarantulas can live twenty years or more, while the males  life expectancy is closer to seven years. Special Behaviors and Defenses Although people often fear tarantulas, these big, hairy spiders are actually quite harmless. They arent likely to bite unless mishandled, and their venom isnt all that potent if they do. Tarantulas do, however, defend themselves if threatened. If they sense danger, many tarantulas will rear up on their hind legs, and extend their front legs and palpi in a kind of put up your dukes posture. Although they dont possess the means to inflict much damage on their attackers, this threatening posture is often enough to spook a potential predator. New World tarantulas employ a surprising defensive behavior – they fling urticating hairs plucked from their abdomens at the offenders face. These fine fibers can irritate the eyes and respiratory passages of predators, stopping them in their tracks. Even tarantula keepers need to be cautious when handling pet tarantulas. One tarantula owner in the UK was surprised when his eye doctor told him he had dozens of tiny hairs lodged in his eyeballs, and they were the cause of his discomfort and light sensitivity. Range and Distribution Tarantulas live in terrestrial habitats throughout the world, on every continent except Antarctica. Worldwide, about 900 species of tarantulas occur. Just 57 tarantula species inhabit the southwestern U.S. (according to Borror and DeLongs Introduction to the Study of Insects, 7th edition). Sources Bugs Rule! Business and Consumer Expectations Of peculiar concern at the macroeconomic degree is the inflationary or recessive province of the economic system. During the most recent fiscal crisis started in 2007, the banking industry suffered immense losingss. Although a batch of marks indicate that the economic system is retrieving, people presents are still non so confident about the hereafter. Liberalization As a consequence of globalisation, liberalisation in trade and investing is encouraged in order to ease international interactions in economic and societal spheres by diplomatic coordination of ordinances and criterions. As a consequence, the economic system is more dynamic and efficient which becomes easier for states to pull foreign direct investing. Increasing Regulations on Banking Industry Due to the fiscal crisis, many states are set uping more ordinances that decrease the potency to gain net incomes from investings and other activities at Bankss in order to protect both the clients and the Bankss. Technological Forces Technology refers to innovations or inventions from applied scientific discipline or technology research. Each new moving ridge of technological invention can replace existing merchandises and companies. Electronic Business Technologies In the past two decennaries, consumers are going much more reliant on on-line direction of their bank histories as the figure of places and concerns basking broadband entree to the Internet has reached true mass-market range. With the increasing universe ‘s cellular telephone endorser base, the lower phone monetary values and the expand of cellular service, a genuinely radical moving ridge of nomadic phones that can pull off fiscal histories is easy taking root all over the universe. However, with the edification of the Internet has arisen the issue of cyber security, another technological alteration to which the banking industry has had to react. Deduction Obviously, the indicant of an aging population has brought about significant growing in nest eggs and retirement programs. Smaller families and double-income households lead to higher discretional incomes that can be saved or invested. Therefore, in the banking industry, sellers should offer more nest eggs and investing history options which enables consumers to choose the most appropriate program that can be personalized to outdo suit themselves. Due to the alone attitudes, lineage, communicating penchants and life styles of different groups harmonizing to coevals cohorts, genders and so on, the banking industry may develop different selling plans. As, the engineering develops, Bankss should see offering a comprehensive scope of services, such as screening and doing minutess, paying measures, online and by cell phone in order to supply convenience for clients so as to derive clients. Furthermore, for clients ‘ histories safety, Bankss should make more unafraid systems and give instructions on how to protect one ‘s history. An epoch of much lower risk-taking by traditional loaners has begun that will last for old ages. As consumers are going more value witting, the banking industry will go more competitory. Banks have to vie on value of their services in order to acquire clients who are necessitating more transparence when taking merchandise. Greatly increased regulative inadvertence will curtail loaners and investing companies of all types. Alternative loaning beginnings will be used to a turning grade by little concerns and some consumers unable to acquire loans elsewhere. 2. Responses and remarks: Maybank has done the following in response to the macroenvironmental alterations. Deciding whether the response is appropriate or non, we need to see whether there are demands and wants for it, whether it is aiming the right group, whether there are points of difference, and whether Maybank would be more likely to make its end by executing the response. You read "The macroenvironmantal forces affect the banking industry are socia†¦" in category "Essay examples" Offering a figure of nest eggs and investing history options such as the Gold Savings Passbook Account and Flexi Plan 2. Furthermore, different options can provide to different group of people which will broaden the bank ‘s mark clients. Pioneering on-line nest eggs histories for the teenage market by developing the â€Å" imteen † history. â€Å" imteen † history is a good thought as through Multi-tiered involvement rate, Passbookless, Convenient ATM entree, Online entree, Free Personal Accident ( PA ) coverage, Academic Cash wagess, Maybank will pull parents who want their kids ( 12-18y ) to larn to pull off their finance with little hazard, and earn future clients. Establishing subdivisions throughout Asia part every bit good as the universe. As Maybank ‘s concerns are chiefly in South East Asia, it is non advisable for it to establish a batch of subdivisions outside Asia as it will non be profitable in the short tally. In add-on, since the universe is still in the shadow of crisis, Maybank should concentrate more on regain trusts from clients alternatively of spread outing its concerns rapidly. Developing the low-maintenance Premier Club history for â€Å" persons who are invariably on the spell † This response is appropriate since it satisfies the demands of people who are busy and in demand of current events and state of affairss. Offering its clients its scope of foreign currency histories which minimize the hazard of foreign exchange rate fluctuations. This action is appropriate as it sets clear targeted sections and attempts to fulfill their demands and wants of interchanging foreign currency easy and often. These responses are evidently right as they meet clients ‘ demands and wants of doing minutess and other services online handily and safely. Offering many services accessible by cell phone. Using M-money to carry on services which is promoted to be unafraid and convenient. Maybank needs to be careful when implementing the engineering. Although nomadic banking makes banking services possible everyplace, there are still a batch of challenges. First, Maybank have to happen ways to fulfill clients with different nomadic phones since it is really hard for Bankss to offer nomadic banking solution on any type of device. Second, security of fiscal minutess, being executed from distant locations and transmittal over the air, need to be addressed jointly by nomadic application developers, radio web service suppliers and the Bankss ‘ IT sections. Third, another challenge for Maybank is to scale-up the nomadic banking substructure to manage exponential growing of the client base as Bankss unable to run into the clients ‘ increasing outlooks from the solution may lose client assurance. Other responses: Reacting to the altering attitudes and functions of work forces and adult females, Maybank should develop banking services catering to both genders. As indicated in the text edition, in Singapore, the United Overseas Bank launched a recognition card merely for ladies under the advertisement subject, â€Å" The Men Do n’t Get It. † Maybank should spread out its female client group by supplying particular services like publicities on watering place, shopping, dining, and traveling and so on. The tendency of value consciousness leads to Maybank analysing the market more carefully. Maybe it should add low-fee recognition cards in response to this new orientation. In order to gain money and minimise the hazard when loaning, Maybank should seek to develop new ways to do loans to clients. For illustration, enabling loaning by and between members of loaning nines, or between friends and household. 3. Some of the macroenvironmental forces impacting other industries are the similar to those in the banking industry, while some are different. Similarities: For societal environment, demographic forces about affect every industry greatly. For illustration, age construction will act upon vesture industry by make up one’s minding what manners of apparels to bring forth, and will impact nutrient industry on their scheme about what facet should they concentrate on, gustatory sensations, Calorie, or eating environment. It will besides impact computing machine industry by clients ‘ demands and wants altering among different age groups. With respect to economic forces, globalisation is an of import tendency. It has led to the rise of monolithic transnational nutrient processing companies, which frequently sell their nutrients under local names in local linguistic communications, after bring forthing them in regional mills worldwide. THe Tempest Essay Thesis Example For Students

THe Tempest Essay Thesis -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-All men are created equal is one of the declarations that American culture is built on. This declaration means that all men no matter of race, religion, or creed are equals in the eyes of society, as well as the law. This was not always true in history, especially not in Shakespeares day and age. During this time, society had levels of classification where men were considered superior to other men. Shakespeare gives us a taste of this hierarchical culture through his play The Tempest. He shows us how superior men perceived themselves in contrast to lesser beings due to their race, financial status, and gender. We also are shown those who had reason to feel superior yet treated others equally and with the respect due to them. We will write a custom essay on THe Tempest Thesis specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The Tempest reflects Shakespeares society through the relationship between characters, especially between Prospero and Caliban. Caliban, who was the previous king of the island, is taught how to be civilized by Prospero and his daughter Miranda. Then he is forced to be their servant. Caliban explains Thou strokst me and make much of me; wouldst give me Water with berries in t; and teach me how to name the bigger light, how the less, That burn by day and night; and then I lovd thee, And showd thee all the qualities o th isle, For I am all the subjects you have, which first was mine own king.(I,ii,334-354). We see he is treated as a lesser being because he is not of the same race as Prospero and Miranda. Prospero describes him as A freckled whelp hag-born not honourd with a human shape.(I,ii,282-283) Clearly, the people of different races were treated as inferior human beings in Shakespeares time. In this culture, because someone is different, they are less of a human than you. Financial status also plays a major role in social classifications. During the time of The Tempest, Dukes and Earls, who were among the nobles, were considered to be superior even to other members of their own race. The nobles had servants and commoners who worked for them. Shakespeare shows us an example of this with the relationship between his characters of Sebastian and Antonio and of the Boatswain and the sailors. Sebastian yells at the sailors A pox o your throat, you bawling, blasphemous, incharitable dog!(I,i,40-41), implying that they are inferior and are there to serve him. Antonio also shows he believes himself superior by stating to the Boatswain Hang, cur! Hang, you whoresom, insolent, noise-maker. We are less afraid to be drowned than thou art.(I,i,43-45) These men were of the same skin color, hair texture, and eye color, but were treated inferior due to their financial status and inferior blood line. Women had also fallen victim to this hierarchial society. During this era women were considered to be objects and were treated as property. Shakespeare presents this in the treatment of Claribel, daughter of Alonso, and Miranda by their fathers. Claribel was married of to the King of Tunis, an African nation, merely for the gain of Alonso, the Duke of Milan, and his Lords. Their feelings are clear in Sebastians words Twas a sweet marriage, and we prosper well in our return. (II,i,69). And for Miranda, Prospero show how he considers his only daughter as he states Then, as my gift, and thine own acquisition Worthily purcasd, take my daughter(IV,i,13-14) She is obviously considered his property. Women did not have rights at this time and were merely used as pawns in trade with other men of stature to gain whatever it was they wished. .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea , .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .postImageUrl , .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea , .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:hover , .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:visited , .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:active { border:0!important; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:active , .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u7bea49c428eba03585ff3fc145b376ea:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Case Study Snap On Tools Intranet (527 words) EssayNot all men in the position to consider themselves superior thought themselves to be. Even though some men had the financial status or noble blood, they treated others equally and genuinely thought them equal. Ferdinand, although being the Prince of Naples, treats Miranda, who he thinks a mere maid, as an equal human being deserving nothing less than his affection and kindness. This is proven true in his conversation with Miranda where he tells her O, if a virgin, And your affection not gone forth, Ill make you the Queen of Naples.(I,ii,450-452). He loves her and would have her as his wife and Queen even though he thinks h er a mere maid. Gonzalo also shows us his heart when he sees Ariel enter with the Boatswain and sailors. He refers to them as here is more of us (V,i,15) showing he considers the Boatswain and sailors his equal. In these two characters, Shakespeare is saying that not all men are egotistical and perceive themselves above others. From being treated inferior, people start to believe themselves inferior. From being unjustly treated, Caliban thinks himself inferior to Prosperos race. When Stepheno and Triniculo arrived on the island, Caliban considered them superior beings even though they were mere servants themselves. They also thought themselves superior to Caliban because he was of a different race even though Caliban does prove to have a greater intellect than both Stepheno and Triniculo. We see their sense of superiority by how they refer to Caliban Servant-Monster, drink to me(III,ii,3). Caliban also shows us his acceptance of this treatment in his response How do thy honour? Let me lick thy shoe(III,ii,22-23) and Thou shalt be lord of it, and Ill serve thee(III,ii,56). We see by this that Caliban truly believes himself inferior even though his own intellect surpasses that of Stepheno and Triniculo. In todays society, treatment of inferiority is against the law and supposedly non-existent openly in society. We all know, however, that this hierarchial mind set still lurks around every corner in todays culture. It may not go as far as forcing someone to be your servant, but it lives in the form of discrimination and segregation. Because of many years of inferior treatment, many people feel they either can not succeed or that it will be more difficult for them than those of the right race or financial bracket. It is not that the people today feel inferior, its that they feel they will not get a fair chance. Its commonly believed that the people of inferior races or monetary status will get picked over for jobs or other discriminatory acts will be performed against them. The two cultures are quite different, but they also have some slight similarities. Our culture is over three-hundred years older than that of Shakespeare, which should make our society more mature in its actions and attitude. We should have learned that all men truly are equal and should be treated accordingly. But all three-hundred years has taught us was how to be more discreet in our actions and feelings by giving them pretty names or keeping them out of the public eye. These two cultures may appear very different but actually are a lot closer than most of society would have us believe. Bibliography:
